Speaker: Marylynne Pitz and Laura Malt Schneiderman
Award-winning journalists Marylynne Pitz and Laura Malt Schneiderman will discuss the indelible mark the Kaufmann family’s department store and philanthropy have left on the city of Pittsburgh, including Squirrel Hill, and on western Pennsylvania. As co-authors of the recently published book, Kaufmann’s: The Family That Built Pittsburgh’s Famed Department Store (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2022), they will also explain how the Kaufmann brothers rose from hardscrabble salesmen to Gilded Age multimillionaires. Marylynne is a Pittsburgh-based arts journalist and Laura is a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette assignment editor and interactive developer.
